Data Privacy Attorney Richard Newman Quoted by Corporate Counsel on FTC Facebook Fine

FTC compliance and defense lawyer Richard B. Newman was quoted in Corporate Counsel in an article entitled “Facebook Expects Up to $5B Loss in Possible FTC Fine Over Data Privacy Mishaps.” The article addresses Facebook’s estimates of an FTC fine of $3 billion to $5 billion over its data privacy practices – the largest-ever FTC fine on a U.S. tech company and the agency’s largest data privacy-related fine. Facebook has been in active negotiations with the Federal Trade Commission for quite some time in conjunction with allegations that it violated a 2011 privacy consent decree in which the social media company agreed to bolster its data privacy protection protocols. “Data privacy regulation remains atop the FTC’s enforcement policy agenda,” Newman stated.
